Actually, the term 'day' is the measure of the time spent on a part of the earth facing the sun. The measure of 'night' is the measure of time spent on a part of the earth that is not facing the sun, thus if the man was flying an aircraft that is flying faster than the speed the earth rotates, flying straight east, then his 'day' is longer. And since he was probably flying for some time, and lets say sitting between to large chat people, on large chatty person with the aisle seat had a child.
