• I define cults as a group of people that through worship distance themselves from society and do not recognise collective ethics and morals of that society. This is why the word cult has negative connotations, and why it poses a direct threat to society.

• Scientology doesn't MAKE people do anything. One of it's basic tenets is that people have the right to make their own decisions and decide what makes sense for them.

• Hahaha I like how people think Scientology is so laughable when ANY OTHER RELIGION is just as ridiculous. I mean honestly? Christians believe in a talking snake and that a 2,000 year old book that states shellfish is an abomination and orders adulterers to be stoned is a basis for an entire belief system and a code of morals. All religion is a cult when followed the way it was intended. You can't tell me that if a religion that didn't eat shellfish or touch insects with six legs or cut off their right hands when it caused them to commit sin, it would not be called a cult. Hello? That's CHRISTIANITY. So, yeah, when followed correctly, all religion is an irrational cult just as crazy as Scientology.

• also, FYI, Scientology does make its members give up (nearly) everything and follow a set of orders. including cutting off family members or friends who try to convince them to leave the cult.
